1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS
350 Two-Door Coupe in exceptional driver quality condition,
with a great deal of time and expense
recently dedicated to this
overall solid example. The 350 CID motor is basically stock and runs
strong, equipped with a Turbo 350 automatic transmission, power
steering and was originally an air-conditioned car. The vehicle runs
and drives extremely well, and
no known major mechanical
problems have been observed. Starts everytime, does not smoke
and has plenty of power. The vehicle tracks straight at highway
speeds. We would classify
this vehicle as a high quality driver in very good-to-excellent
condition with a few loose ends that need sorting out. We
will further describe in detail what we would do if we were to bring
this car to the next level in terms of value.
Inspection of the exterior
of the car reveals a high quality trim-off clear-coat piant
job in Black, nicely done rally stripes in Burgundy Metallic lying
beneath the clear-coat. The Cowl Induction style hood is made of
steel. No dents or scratches, and it appears that the car was driven
very little since this work was performed. A look down both sides of
the car reveals overall straight body panels. Not trailer-queen
concourse laser straight, but certainly very nice. One noticeable
ripple below the driver-door handle that a dentless repair outfit
could reduce/eliminate. Some paint bubbling ocurring at the base of
the back glass. A light duty refridgerator magnet will stick to this
surface, thus no major rust repair has been performed in this area.
Also, inspection from underneath in the trunk area shows some
repair work or previous corrosion issues.NO
OTHER RUST BUBBLES TO BE FOUND ANYWHERE on this
dry climate
example!!! A light-duty refridgerator magnet will stick to all lower
areas of this vehicle including all quarter panel areas and the
bases of both doors!!! The only place we could not get it to stick
was on the passenger-side front fender, likely to be from previous
dent repair. Our opinion is that a minimal amount of bondo exists on
the body, and the foundation of this restoration was a solid
example. Further exterior inspection reveals many recent trim
products including front and rear bumpers, rocker panels trim,
badges, wheel well mouldings, parking light assemblies, door and
trunk locks, door handles and more.
The rally wheels
have beauty rings and center caps that are in very good-to-excellent
condition, and no curb rash. The back bumper is original and looks a
little dull. Stainless window trim looks dull with a few dents here
and there and could use some attention. These items are not up to
the standard of the rest of the exterior. The vinyl top looks new,
and all of the glass looks original and in good condition with the
exception of a rock chip on the windshield and chipping on the
driver-side glass edge. Overall, a fresh looking exterior
presentation.
Inspection of the interior of the vehicle reveals a great deal of
recent trim products as well.Correct seat covers, door panels which
are missing Camaro badges, carpet and headliner all look new. The
center console looks professionally restored with a new shift
indicator bezel and ash tray. Main ashtray is new as well. Door
handles and window cranks were replaced as well. The dash pad was
replaced entirely, and is not a dash cap. Door and window seals have
been replaced as well.
Painted surfaces on the dash board have been redone and the original
gauge cluster looks good. The radio is missing, although the
opening has not been altered. Original sun visors look a little
droopy, and the rear package tray has been replaced. Overall, a very
good interior presentation.
Most importantly, the undercarriage of this car is a
solid and dry climate
example. The floor panels are all original and all solid with
the exception of the driver side. At some point in the car's life,
moisture had settled underneath the original carpeting likely by
entering or exiting the vehicle with wet shoes, or a previous
leaking window seal. Thus, a 1'x4" area underneath the driver-side
frame rail has been replaced with sheetmetal. This repair is not
indicative of the condition of the rest of the undercarriage. Both
quarter panels have been replaced to eliminate any future rust
issues in this area. The rocker panels are solid with no rust
bubbling or evidence of previous rust repair. The quarter panels
liners behind the rear wells show no corrosion issues and the trunk
pan and frame rails are solid. No hasty weld marks or crinkled metal
underneath that would indicate collision. Other than the disclosed
issue on the driver-side floor pan, we feel the undercarriage is
solid overall, and we have observed no other areas of concern
underneath. Definitely not a
Northern car!!!
The trunk area shows to be incomplete, missing jack and spare, and
the original floor pan is overall solid with thick metal, with a
couple of pinholes, and in our opinion does not need to be replaced.
The trunk jamb is finished out with a recent trunk seal installed as
well.
